COASTAL PLANTATION AT KUKUI’ULA

This classic plantation home at Kukui’ula is brimming with special architectural details and traditional styling.  Signature features of local architect, Ginny Latham, are seen in the style of the roofline, double hung Pella windows, and custom millwork.  Other notable features include a gourmet kitchen with a spacious island, an expansive covered lanai on the makai side (ocean side) of the home, with an outdoor kitchen and entertainment area, a large outdoor shower garden off the lower level suite, a dual office/ work space upstairs, and central air-conditioning.   Custom built-in dressers, bookcases, desks, and other cabinets offer optimal storage and functionality.

Kala Interior Design reworked the original architectural plans, including:  the layout of the lower hall/ Powder Bath, the Laundry/ Butler’s Pantry, the main Kitchen configuration, and the upper floor bathroom/ closet/ loft areas.  Custom cabinetry was fine-tuned and modified as needed.  The interior fixtures and finishes were selected to give the home a “stand-out”, unique look that would catch the attention of prospective buyers.  Wanting to play upon the traditional appeal of this home, while adding in some fresh, current elements, Kala Interior Design settled on a “Coastal Plantation” look for the home.  The color scheme of calming blues & creamy whites accented with punches of coral red, is further enhanced with layers of natural textures & fibers.   A classic, timeless, and widely-appealing scheme, that also happens to be right on trend!

Unique and sophisticated materials are used throughout the home, including:  Oak Latte wood flooring, Cerused Oak cabinets, marble countertops, hand-made Italian subway tiles, patterned cement floor tile, Ipe wood decking, tongue-and-groove wall paneling, extensive custom millwork, and specialty wall coverings.  The fixtures are equally as impressive, and incorporate Kohler sinks and faucets throughout, a marble vessel sink in the Powder Bath, and Hudson Valley Lighting pendants & wall sconces.  Other special features include sliding barn doors, and horizontal ship-lap paneling in the Powder Bath.

The furnishings are designed to feel comfortable and relaxed, with an air of elegance.  Natural materials such as seagrass, abaca, and bamboo infuse the spaces with a coastal vibe.  Stripes and tropical motifs are prevalent in the selected textiles, and mix traditional and island styles.
